ALLARD SAYS VOTE ON STRATEGIC PETROLEUM RESERVE WILL NOT LOWER GAS PRICES FOR AMERICAN CONSUMERS
U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) said today that the U.S. Senate missed a ‘golden opportunity’ to enact a comprehensive energy package that would lower gas prices for American consumers. “Today was a missed opportunity to lower gas prices for American consumers,” said Allard. “Voting only to stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) without doing anything to increase domestic production and lessening our dependence on foreign oil is a disservice to the American people.” Allard was the only member of the Senate to vote against an amendment to tie the filling of the SPR to volatile market prices. COLORADO DESERVES A SHARE OF FUNDS FROM DEVELOPMENT IN THE NAVAL OIL SHALE RESERVE
There are more than 1,300 wells producing clean, domestic supplies of natural gas within Colorado’s Naval Oil Shale Reserve lands. Of these, 333 are operating on federal lands and the production royalties derived from these wells are deposited in a trust fund at the Department of Treasury. The monies in this fund are earmarked to pay for the clean-up of the Anvil Points site, but what happens to the remainder of the funds? My goal is to ensure that Colorado – especially the Western Slope – receives its fair share.
