How and When to Apply
By applicant's signed, written request by fax or mail, anytime from January of your junior year, through September of your senior year in high school.

Applications will not be available after October 1.

The deadline for our office receiving your COMPLETED application for nomination is October 15. For those in college, the same time frame applies.

Where to send request for application:
Senator Allard's Colorado Springs office
ATTN: BJ Jones
111 S. Tejon, Suite 300
Colorado Springs
, Colorado 80903
(Or fax: 719-636-2590)

This application process is for nomination, and is separate from the application you must complete for the academies. Remember to also apply for nomination to your other U.S. Senator, and your congressional district representative, as well.

What the application entails
Application for Senator Allard's nomination includes:

  • A 2-page application form asking for information about yourself and your academic and extracurricular activities
  • 3 evaluation forms that you give to people you want to recommend you
  • A request for a short letter to the Senator about why you are interested in attending a service academy
  • IF YOU ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED, you will be interviewed in November by a panel of 2 or 3 people. (Those Colorado residents living out of state are not required to be interviewed.)

Academics and Activities
Average test scores of students accepted to the academies are:

  • ACT - Math 27 Eng 28
  • SAT - Math 652 Ver 556

Academically, the majority of students accepted to the academies are in at least the top 20% of their graduating class.

Most successful applicants are active and hold some leadership roles in sports and/or other extracurricular activities at school, and have some involvement in their community.

The “Fine Print”
You can contact the service academies earlier; they will send you candidate information at your request:

You must be at least 17 but not yet 23 years old on July 1st of the year you want to enter, be unmarried and have no legal obligation to support a child or children.

There will be physical aptitude and medical testing requirements to qualify.

Congressional nomination does not guarantee acceptance to the service academies, but only assures that your application will be considered first by the review boards. Your application to each academy you are considering should be completed during or before the winter of your senior year.
